The Men in Black have always protected the Earth from the scum of the universe. In this new adventure, they tackle their biggest, most global threat to date: a mole in the Men in Black organization.
Arriving overseas, Agent M meets Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), with the rogue MIB officer playing by his own rules, still enjoying fame associated with his takedown of The Hive, a deadly alien force. While High T (Liam Neeson) offers assignments and Agent C (Rafe Spall) butts heads with H, the partners are soon in charge of showing an alien dignitary a night on the town, only to have the leader assassinated by The Hive. Handed a special box to protect and offered a warning about MIB, M puts her trust in H, with the pair working to figure out what’s in the container, trying to keep it out of enemy control.
In many ways, “International” is a semi-remake of “Men in Black,” following Molly as she becomes Agent M, working through training and transformation to become part of the team. He’s not one to deal gently with the aliens, even choosing to sleep with them in the name of self-preservation, while M is the wide-eyed newcomer, trying to stick to the rules of engagement while reintroducing viewers to many “Men in Black” devices, including oddly designed guns and the neuralyzers, which play a larger part in the feature. The writing doesn’t truly take advantage of the European aspect of the movie either, playing it safe with generic locations and some bookend business with the Eiffel Tower.
“International” is more of a whodunit than a creature pursuit picture. The alien nation in “International” is varied, boosting the feature’s visual appeal.
